About Entrepreneurs
The Investopedia describes Entrepreneur as an individual who creates a new business, bearing most of the risks and enjoy most of the rewards.
Entrepreneurs are often seen as opportunists, innovators and influencers who have the vision, knowledge, skills, ideas, intelligence, foresight, creativity, personality, conviction, passion, resilience, perseverance, salesmanship, guts and other traits to start and build a business. Each entrepreneur, being individuals, is different and may bear, in varying degrees, some of the aforementioned characteristics.
Generally, entrepreneurs may be categorized into four main types according to their technical knowledge (and skills) in the business or products as well as their ability to take risks.
Different Types of Entrepreneurs
Which of the following characterises YOU?
-
The Specialist has strong knowledge and skills in a specific area to build a business. He/she could be an academic or a master craftsman who knows his/her trade well. The Specialist focuses on doing what he/she knows best and is not a risk taker.
-
The Builder can create scalable businesses within a short time frame. He/she may not be a technical expert, however, the Builder has the ability to assemble the resources and knowhow to build the business gradually, one step at a time.
-
The Innovator is creative and passionate about using his/her own ideas to develop and offer products and services. He/she could be a good developer of ideas, products or systems. The Innovator may require someone or a support team to promote his inventions.
-
The Opportunist can pick out financial opportunities, getting in at the right time and exiting when the business hit its peak. He/she is a real risk taker and may not be a product expert. The Opportunist could be an investor.
Most entrepreneurs possess multiple traits in varying degrees. However, you are inclined towards your dominant trait.
